The Smile of Smiling Somerset juxtaposes a colourful nostalgic seaside image with local headlines. I wanted to explore how the current social and cultural context can intersect with the town’s nostalgic seaside iconography through art to create a new impression of the now. This artwork was a response to a project to highlight life in lockdown and brighten up the town. It was made into a poster design which was then printed and pasted onto local council announcement boards around Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon seafront.  It has also been displayed in Weston Artspace, a local art organisation which is based in Weston high street.
